SCHOOL BADGE

The school badge of Infant Jesus Convent is an international one-used by students in all five continents – places reaching as far as California, France, Peru, Italy, Singapore, England, Ireland, Thailand, Japan and Malaysia. The symbolism of the badge is as relevant today as it has been over the centuries. The centre of the badge is red with silver band fringed with gold. Red traditionally conveys the message of love, God’s spirit of love embracing the world. On the right is the holy book. To the Christians, this is the Bible; to the Muslims, the Quran; to the Hindus, the Bhagavadgita and to the Buddists, the Dharmapada. Wherever the teachings are found, these are the guiding principles of their faith in God – emphasized for us in Malaysia by the first principle of the Rukun Negara.
                                             “BELIEF IN GOD”

On the left is a distaff and spindle. This is a symbol of labour. In our ideals, we are proud to be linked to the thousands of girls of different culture, age and time who have passed on to us a noble tradition. Each of us today has our own part to play manually and intellectually in the creative work of building a harmonious world.

                          “SIMPLE IN VIRTUE, STEADFAST IN DUTY”

Our motto is brief, but deep in meaning. To be ‘Simple in Virtue’ is to go to God in full confidence and love. It means being honest and open to others, so that we can foster the spirit of family togetherness. This simplicity calls for an acknowledgement of our own faults and an effort to overcome basic selfishness. To be ‘Steadfast in Duty’ means to be committed in our duty to be of service to others. This duty of giving of self-demands energy because it presents itself daily and hourly. Only when one puts self and petty interests aside, can this steadfastness in duty be fully realized. This service begins with us and its limits are the ends of the earth. The Garland of Marguerites is a symbol of purity in heart and simplicity in spirit towards God, our neighbours and ourselves. The School Badge is therefore a ‘mark of honor’. It shows the characteristics spirit of the Infant Jesus Convent girls around the world.
